Max George joins Hits Radio

Singer Max George is joining Hits Radio to host a new Friday evening show called Friday Night Hits.

Hits Radio Programme Director, Paul Gerard said: “We’re delighted to have Max join the team at Hits Radio! His energy and vibes are electric

“Right now the UK is more hungry for the weekend than ever before and with our social lives getting better by the week and zoom quizzes a thing of the past, we can’t think of a better person to kick start the brand new sound to the Hits Radio Weekend.. Crack open a drink and turn us up!”

Max, who competed in last year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing, is expected to be joined by music friends dropping in to deliver their future hits for him to play on the air.

He commented: “I’m buzzing to be doing Friday nights, I can’t wait to kickstart people’s weekends and what better way to start my own weekend than playing some of the best tunes created from around the world!

“I’ve always loved listening to radio and I feel really proud that I’ve got my own show as big as this one across the UK on Hits Radio.”

Ofcom Awards Twelve Hyperlocal FM Licences

Twelve services will commence broadcasting on FM soon via Ofcom’s latest Limited Coverage FM Restricted Services experiment.

The regulator welcomed applications earlier this year for the trial, with 23 applications received by the closing date of 30 April 2021.

Each station will be on-air for 12 months using low-power FM covering a short range of up to around 1 km radius.

The trial will test whether the use of limited coverage FM spectrum is a viable way of making more spectrum available for the licensing of restricted radio services in the future.

Ofcom expects it to be particularly suitable for providing radio services to defined establishments such as hospitals or army barracks.

The 12 new services are:

  • Harrogate Hospital Radio
  • Our Island Radio – Isle of Wight
  • Hospital Radio Plymouth
  • Radio Redhill – Surrey
  • LCR2 – Leicester
  • Stoke Mandeville Hospital Radio
  • Anker Radio – Nuneaton
  • Forest Gold Radio – Epping
  • University Radio York
  • Scout Radio – Chingford
  • BFBS Blandford – Bovington
  • BFBS Gurkha Radio – Dover
