Without doubt this has been one of the most positive surveys we’ve had in ages, often the larger networks balance out overall so the percentage difference doesn’t seem that significant. But it puts it in perspective if you consider that a 4% increase in the Capital Network’s weekly reach is an extra 300,000 listeners (enough to fill Wembley Stadium 3 and a bit times) and it has nearly 3 million more total listening hours each week, up 7% q on q.
It’s definitely been a fantastic set of results for the Global brands – Smooth is up 5%, Classic is up 11%, LBC is up 15% and Gold is up an incredible 23% in total hours. These are all big numbers on stations with this much scale.
The Bauer City Network now includes the former Orion stations, adding 1.3 mil listeners to the network to achieve a weekly reach over 7 million, and with hours now at over 58 million it is not far behind Heart in total listening.
The talk stations have recent events to thank for their gains – LBC in particular has benefited greatly from the political turmoil with a 12% increase in weekly reach and a 15% increase in total hours, whereas Talksport’s reach is the second highest it’s ever been at nearly 3.3 mil, it was over 3.3 mil in Q2 2014 so both peaks coincide with the Euros.
Jazz FM is back on form after joining D2 with an 18% increase in weekly reach and a 10% increase in total hours.
